Corporal James Kitlen is a five-year veteran of the Gilchrist Co. Sheriff’s Office. Corporal Kitlen is currently assigned to the Patrol Division where his specialty is traffic enforcement and patrol activities. Corporal Kitlen is radar and laser certified, a Field Training Officer, and is used as an acting supervisor on a routine basis.
In April 2014, Corporal Kitlen responded to a Call for Assistance in regards to two local residents who were attempting to return their home during the recent river flooding near Sun Springs. The couple became stranded in the water, and they were near drowning when Corporal Kitlen and Road Department Supervisor Billy Cannon arrived on scene. Corporal Kitlen and Mr. Cannon entered the water in total disregard of their own safety and well-being to save the couple who were in immediate distress.
Corporal Kitlen is a true professional who demonstrated the motto of the Gilchrist Co. Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Robert D. Schultz III, “one team, one mission”, and without a doubt saved the couple’s lives.
