Detective Stephanie McQuaig has been with the Ocala Police Department for 16 years and assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau for nine years. Her primary assignment has been the investigation of child-related crimes, but she also assists with the investigation of other major related crimes like homicide and robbery.
Her passion has been in investigating abuse and sex crimes involving children. Her knowledge in this area has lead officers and other detectives to call Det. McQuaig for assistance. Three years ago, Detective McQuaig approached Dawn Westgate, Executive Director for Kimberly’s Center, with the idea of planning a 5k run to help raise funds for the organization. The mission of the Kimberly Center in Ocala is to protect, serve, and advocate for abused and neglected children. The center provides forensic child abuse interviews, exams, and free counseling. Detective McQuaig has served as the chair of the committee that pulled off the first annual Race Against Child Abuse in 2012. Since then, she has organized two more 5k races, and this year had their best result in raising more than $17,000.
The quiet dedication to this cause is honorable and serves as a great example for all law enforcement officers in Marion County.
