In August 2013, Investigator Lynn Cannon was on her way to the station when she noticed several people in an intersection, and assuming it was a traffic crash, she turned on her emergency lights. Some of the citizens ran to her, pointing toward a vehicle that was driving in reverse, and going in circles with what seemed to be an unconscious driver.
Prior to Investigator Cannon’s arrival, the driver seemed to suffer some sort of medical emergency while crossing through the intersection and her vehicle drifted into the westbound left turn lane, hitting another vehicle head on. After the impact, the disoriented driver put the vehicle in reverse and slumped over against the driver side window. The vehicle then began to travel backwards in circles with no one in control of the vehicle.
As the vehicle drove backwards, Investigator Cannon approached the vehicle looking for an unlocked door, and was able to swing open the back door and climb in under the glass. She then put the vehicle in park and turned the key off and removed it. She unlocked the doors and immediately assessed the driver who was still unconscious but had a pulse and was breathing. It was later learned that the driver was having a psychotic episode and because of Investigator Cannon’s quick thinking, she was able to bring this situation to a safe conclusion with no injury to innocent civilians.
